$175 towards $1,000

  • Although being a World Championship Boxer, an Alpinist with 4 World Summits, a 38-Time Marathon Finisher or surviving on my own in NYC since the age of 15 might be considered defying the odds, there is a bigger challenge that I have overcome. I am a daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin of men who suffer from Alcoholism. Thanks to organizations like Odyssey House who educate and help people in recovery, I escaped the statistics of the illness that runs in many families with knowledge and education. On Sunday, November 6th, I will be running my 39th Marathon and helping Odyssey House @odysseyhouseny raise awareness at the iconic TCS New York City Marathon @nycmarathon 💪 🏃‍♀️ ❤️

At Odyssey House, people in recovery are encouraged to participate in fitness programs as varied as long-distance running, weight training, Pilates and yoga. The payoff, in terms of relapse prevention, program retention, and improved health indicators, is more than promising.

This year, a team of runners in treatment for substance use disorders will take on the ultimate challenge – the grueling 26.2-mile TCS NYC Marathon, the biggest one-day sports event in the city. They have been training for this day for months. They are out to prove to themselves that they are not powerless over addiction, that treatment works, and people in recovery are goal-oriented, successful people.

This is no small accomplishment for men and women who have been battling substance use disorders for years. Your contribution will help provide more than just the essential equipment every runner needs (sneakers, entry fees and race uniforms); it will also fund the health and fitness services that ALL residents in treatment at Odyssey House benefit from.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Team Odyssey!
